Elma School Based Health Center

Elma School's school-based health center provides medical, mental health, and dental services for students in the district. A school-based health center (SBHC) fosters learning readiness and academic achievement by ensuring that students' health needs are being met so they can focus on learning, playing, growing, and thriving. Elma Elementary School Based Health Center began providing health services for students at Elma Elementary School in 2021. In 2024 the Elma School Based Health Center expanded health services to Elma Middle School to serve students where they spend most of their time – at school.

The school-based health center partners include local service providers: ESD 113, Olympic Valley Clinic, Summit Pacific Medical Center, and Elma Family Dental. These partners work closely with the school nurse, school counselor, school administration, teachers, and other student support staff in the building to provide safe, appropriate, and culturally competent health care. Additional partners, including the EYE See Clinic and Big Smiles Dental offer follow-up services to the Elma School community.

The SBHC will offer the following services:

  • Well-child checks, sports physicals, and immunizations
  • Evaluation and treatment of common health problems
  • Medication management
  • Prevention and early intervention mental health services
  • Oral health care, including screenings, exams, cleanings, treatment, and referrals
  • Vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses
  • Preventative health care, including health education and promotion
  • Health insurance eligibility and enrollment assistance
  • Referrals to other health care providers and specialists as needed

This program is an opt-in program, meaning that all services are provided only with parental consent. Services will be provided by licensed health professionals.
