A hiring committee interviewed four candidates and ultimately recommended the hire of Oppliger to fill the vacant Elma High School Principal position. Bill has been serving in the position as an interim since October 2021.

As you all are aware, at the regular meeting held last week, the Board took action to allow pre-school, kindergarten, first and second grade students to return to school for in person instruction in a hybrid model. Unfortunately, this action was dependent upon the positive continuation of the downward trend of Grays Harbor Covid numbers. However, as of today, rather than the hopeful decline, the WA Risk Assessment Dashboard reflects an increase that has flattened out somewhat in the 110-120/100,000 range and has prompted the Board to delay the return of those students.

East County Transportation Co-op is Now Open!

Our new Transportation Co-Op is up and running! Currently the co-op serves the Elma School District and other surrounding entities including; EDS 113, Fire District 5, Mary M. Night, McCleary and Satsop School Districts. The Co-Op now functions as an Elma district for-profit enterprise (unlike our previous bus garage). The Co-Op was financed through collaboration using State capital project funds.

Sue Anderson, Centurylink Vice President and General Manager for Washington, along with State Superintendent, Chris Reykdal, and the one and only Seattle Seahawk Blitz - all made a surprise visit to Mrs. Woodruff's kindergarten classroom to award her a $5,000 technology grant.

The Elma School District Office is now operating by summer hours. For the remainder of summer break, the office will be open Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM, closed on Fridays. The office will be closed on July 4 and 5 in observation of Independence Day.
