Elma, WA – A familiar name is set to return to Elma School District, pending Board approval at their next meeting on Wednesday, January 14: Ken Ashlock. If the School Board of Directors approve, Ashlock will serve as the Interim Athletic Director (AD).

His name will be familiar for many Elma residents because of his long tenure as a coach for numerous Elma teams, most notably working for long-time wrestling head coach Rick Rakevich, a 2021 National Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee. Ashlock was part of Rakevich's coaching staff that led close to a dozen different wrestlers to the state tournament, better known as the Mat Classic to followers of high school wrestling. Rakevich oversaw Elma's team when they won the state championship in 1995.

Ashlock has coached numerous other sports, such as football, too. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, including more than 20 years as an Athletic Director. He most recently served in the nearby Aberdeen School District.
