The newly developed activity trail integrates essential academic and physical skills into an engaging outdoor learning environment. This unique project aims to support the holistic development of students by combining interactive educational elements with physical challenges. The trail features 14 stations that correspond to key curriculum goals, including number and letter recognition games, natural resource educational kiosks, and physical fitness activities.
“Our goal with this trail is to create an immersive learning experience that not only enhances academic skills but also promotes physical health and well-being,” said Christopher Nesmith, Superintendent of the Elma School District. “By combining these elements, we’re providing our students and their families with a dynamic and fun environment that supports overall growth.”
Summit Pacific Medical Center, a key partner in this project, has provided invaluable resources and expertise in promoting health and wellness. “We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative that bridges education and health,” stated Josh Martin, CEO at Summit Pacific Medical Center. “This trail is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together to create positive and impactful experiences for our community’s youth.”
Blue Zones Activate Grays Harbor County, known for its commitment to community well-being, has also played a crucial role in developing the trail’s wellness components. “The Summit Discovery Trail aligns perfectly with our mission to promote healthy lifestyles,” said Chris Frye, Executive Director of Blue Zones Activate Grays Harbor County. “We believe that integrating health and education in such a fun and innovative way will have a lasting impact on families in our community.”
The grand opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours of the trail, and interactive demonstrations of the various activity stations. Local residents, educators, and students are all invited to join the celebration and experience firsthand the exciting new addition to their community.
Summit Pacific Medical Center will also be hosting the Peak Wellness 5K Family Fun Run at 9:00 a.m. (registration opens at 8:00) and Peak Health Wellness Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Both events are free to the public and will be held on the Summit Pacific Medical Center Campus.
