Elma Youth Track & Field camp a success

Nani Kanios instructs campers on proper technique in a relay race.

Campers are having a really fun time this week at the Elma Youth Track and Field Camp!

Early in the week, campers focus on learning different skill areas. The camp will feature a full-scale track meet on the final day of camp. Campers will compete in each of the skill areas as one big group.

On Tuesday, campers used Frisbees and paper planes as safer alternatives to items like the discus and javelin while still using most of the same principles. Campers also practiced how to make a baton hand-off in a relay race, worked on sprints, jumps, and other related skills.

EHS Track and Field team members gained coaching skills in teaching campers in an individual skill area. We may have some future coaches in the program, as they demonstrated track and field skills in a clear and understandable manner and showed care for the young campers. Kudos to our student-athletes!

With temperatures soaring into the 90s this week, the coaches ensured campers were hydrated and had a cool-off area. We hope this camp will continue to be an Elma summer tradition for years to come!
