Superintendent's Message

Greetings,

Our school year is underway and we are as busy as we've ever been. Over the past two years we've worked on creating a Mission and a Vision for our District and we've not only accomplished that, we've begun acting on it and fulfilling its promise. The strength of the Elma School District is the people who live, work and learn here. Our staff is caring, dedicated and committed to realizing high achievement for all our students, while reaching each student personally. Our students are caring, talented and hard-working, regularly winning regional, state and even national recognition with regularity. Our parents and community are supportive, caring and full of community and school spirit. (Who else shuts down Main Street to sing the fight song under the stoplight for Homecoming?)
This next month we will be starting our after school programs at all our schools. Parents, be on the look out for surveys regarding transportation FROM the after school program. We are running buses home from the program in an effort to make sure help is available to those who most need it. We'd like to know who wants to use that option and where you live. Where students are dropped off may be at a regional drop-off point rather than your student's regular bus stop. We need to know who will be attending before we can determine how widespread our drop points can be.
Also, we are looking for adult volunteers who are interested in working with students in each of the three grade bands (1-5), (6-8) and (9-12), if interested please contact Stephanie Smith, our Family and Community Involvement Coordinator. Volunteers are wanted to help teach reading, math and conduct enrichment in music, dance and any other activity which we find to be of great interest to our students. Stephanie can be reached at (360) 482-2822.
Thank you, Elma for all you do for us. Let's have the best year ever!
Kevin
